 The Vasilopotamos River

The Vasilopotamos river is a smaller river, streaming from the centre of the town of Skala, which debouches into the Evrotas river. The endemic species of Gold Menida (Tropidophoxinellus spartaticus) fish of fresh water lives in this area. The Vasilopotapos river and the Evrotas river are the natural habitat of the (Lutra lutra) otter which is an endangered species. During the Venitian era river bank retaining walls were built to turn it to a navigable river for commercial purposes.
